Oneworld Alliance’s board of directors announced the addition of Oman Air to the fleet’s membership, unlocking new features and upgrades.
The announcement was made at IATA’s 78th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and World Air Transport Summit (WATS) in Doha, Qatar.
Qatar Airways, a Oneworld member, will act as a sponsor of Oman Air’s entry into the alliance, providing guidance and support.
The initiative will see Oman Air become a full member by 2024, after which it will provide passengers traveling on its flights with access to the full range of the alliance’s benefits.
Joining Oneworld would allow passengers of Oman Air will be offered a seamless travel journey, connecting them to more than 900 destinations across 170 countries.
Under the new deal, Oman Air will be a part of a host of global airlines that are well represented across their networks, most notably American Airlines, British Airways, Royal Jordanian, and Qatar Airways.
Oneworld highlights that passengers can enjoy the benefits of several world-class airlines’ collective efforts via the alliance.
Moreover, officially becoming a member of Oneworld will allow for further codeshare prospects, which will expand opportunities for the airline and its passengers around the world.
The code-share, also known as code-sharing, is when two airline companies share an ownership stake in the same flight assigned to one of the two companies, and a seat can be purchased on one airline, but it is actually managed by the other that cooperates under the flight number or flight code.
