Oman sees 1 percent inflation increase in February 2025

Prices of personal goods up 6.3 percent, transport up 3.4 percent, health up 3.2 percent

Geographically, the index climbed in Musandam Governorate by 1.8 percent at the close of February 2025 in comparison to the same period the previous year.

The inflation rate in the Sultanate of Oman witnessed an increase of 1 percent in February 2025 when compared to the same month in 2024, using the 2018 base year, as reported by the Consumer Price Index data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

Price changes in various groups

The data revealed a surge in the prices of the personal goods and miscellaneous services group by 6.3 percent, with the transport group rising by 3.4 percent and the health group by 3.2 percent. Additionally, there was an increase in the prices of the restaurants and hotels group by 0.8 percent, the clothing and footwear group by 0.5 percent, and the recreation and culture group by 0.4 percent. Furthermore, the furniture, household equipment, and maintenance group saw a rise of 0.3 percent, while the food and non-alcoholic beverages group and the education group each increased by 0.1 percent. In contrast, the prices for the housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels group, along with the communication and tobacco groups, remained unchanged.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages trends

In terms of the food and non-alcoholic beverages group for February 2025, the prices for the milk, cheese, and eggs group rose by 3.3 percent, alongside a 3.3 percent increase in the Food Products n.e.c. group and a 3 percent rise in the sugar, jam, honey, and confectionery group. The prices for fruits increased by 2.1 percent, the oils and fats group by 1.3 percent, and the bread and cereals group by 0.7 percent. Conversely, the prices for the fish and seafood group dropped by 5.9 percent, the vegetables group by 2.2 percent, the meat group by 0.3 percent, and the non-alcoholic beverages group by 0.2 percent.

Geographical inflation variations

Geographically, the index climbed in Musandam Governorate by 1.8 percent at the close of February 2025 in comparison to the same period the previous year. It also exhibited a rise of 1.8 percent in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, 1.5 percent in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, and 1.5 percent in Al Wusta Governorate.

In addition, Al Dhahirah Governorate experienced a 1.2 percent increase, Dhofar Governorate saw a rise of 1.1 percent, Al Buraimi Governorate increased by 1 percent, Muscat Governorate by 0.9 percent, North Al Batinah Governorate by 0.6 percent, and North Al Sharqiyah Governorate by 0.5 percent. Meanwhile, South Al Batinah Governorate registered a modest increase of 0.1 percent.
