Nizwa Industrial City, managed by Oman’s Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn), has seen remarkable growth in the first half of 2024. Four new projects, valued at over OMR5.5 million ($14.28 million), have been localized, occupying 67,000 square meters. This brings the total investment in Nizwa Industrial City to OMR474 million ($1.23 billion), Oman News Agency reported.

A thriving industrial hub

Salah Nasser Al Alawi, acting director general of Nizwa Industrial City, reports that the city now boasts 173 projects at various stages of development. Furthermore, this includes 154 operational projects, 8 allocated with space, and 13 under construction. The workforce has reached 5,707 employees, with an impressive 45 percent Omanisation rate. Of the 3.1 million square meters of developed land, 76 percent is currently occupied, while the total area of the industrial city exceeds 7.2 million square meters.

Infrastructure enhancements

Madayn has been actively enhancing the infrastructure of Nizwa Industrial City. In the first half of 2024, they completed the expansion of Phases 3 and 4, covering one million square meters. This expansion includes improved basic services, a new entrance, and a fiber optic network in collaboration with Oman Broadband Company. Madayn is currently developing the master plan for Phase 5, spanning 4.1 million square meters. This project, involving consultancy studies, is further expected to be completed in the second half of 2024, making land available for investment.

Supporting SMEs and residential development

In partnership with the SMEs Development Authority, Madayn is developing the Madayn Entrepreneurial Complex on 11,000 square meters. Additionally, this complex will feature 10 industrial workshops specifically designed for SMEs and is projected to be completed within 12 months.

Nizwa Industrial City is also focusing on residential development. The master plan for a 78,000 square meter residential project is underway and will be open for investment after finalization. Environmental sustainability initiatives are also in progress, including the planting of over 600 trees in Phases 3 and 4.  A 34,000 square meter commercial area at the city’s entrance has been leased to an investor, providing services to local companies, employees, and nearby residential areas.

A diverse industrial landscape

Nizwa Industrial City further houses a diverse range of industries, including food processing, construction materials, glass, wood, and steel. The city also accommodates oil and gas companies involved in equipment maintenance and a variety of SMEs offering services to factories and employees.

Moreover, Nizwa Industrial City is preparing for the inauguration of several key projects, including a specialized medical solutions factory currently under construction. This factory is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing health security in the Sultanate of Oman.
