The next UAE public holiday is round the corner, less than two weeks away. According to the official list approved by the UAE government, the next public holiday in the UAE will be for the Prophet’s birthday on Rabi Al Awwal 12. The Dubai government’s Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) calendar states the day will likely be on Sunday, September 15, subject to moon sighting.

When is the Prophet’s birthday observed?

The birthday of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) is observed on the 12th of Rabi Al Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar. The day is observed as a national holiday across several Islamic countries. It’s also celebrated in non-Muslim countries among communities that have a large Muslim population.

Seven official UAE holidays

Of the seven official holidays announced by the UAE cabinet, we have already observed five. Until now, UAE residents have enjoyed holidays for New Year’s Day, Eid Al Fitr, Arafah Day, Eid Al Adha and the Islamic New Year.

According to the official list, only two holidays remain for the rest of the year: the Prophet’s birthday and UAE National Day.

When is the National Day holiday?

The National Day holiday is the last official holiday in the UAE this year. It will be observed on December 2 and 3, which happen to be Monday and Tuesday. Therefore, combined with the weekend, UAE residents will get a four-day holiday.

What’s the significance of the UAE National Day?

The UAE’s National Day is observed on December 2. The rulers of the emirates signed a unification agreement to create the United Arab Emirates on this day, bringing together separate states into one nation under one flag.

The official theme of the National Day celebrations is ‘Spirit of the Union’.

To mark the occasion, traditional events are held across the country, and the whole nation is lit up with lights and decorated with flags.

Flag-hoisting ceremonies are held at schools and offices, while fireworks are held at several locations.
