The Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Cuba’s Institute of Aeronautics and Civil Aviation (IACC) to strengthen cooperation in civil aviation between the two countries.

The agreement came during the visit of Qatar’s delegation to the Cuban capital, Havana, which included the acting president of QCAA Mohamed Faleh Al Hajri, in addition to representatives from Qatar Airways and Qatar Company for Airports Operation and Management (MATAR). At the invitation of the IACC of Cuba, Qatar’s delegation visited the country with the aim of strengthening cooperation and increasing transport rights between the two countries in the field of civil aviation.

Liberalizing air transport rights

During the visit, Al Hajri signed the agreement with the president of Cuba’s IACC, Armando Daniel López. The agreement will allow for the liberalization of air transport rights between the two countries. Carriers included in the agreement will be able to use the Fifth Freedom at all intermediate and beyond points. This will enhance the transport rights of the national carrier, Qatar Airways, and contribute to expanding its global network of destinations.

Following the agreement signing, Qatar and Cuba both stressed the necessity and importance of committing to developing means of cooperation between the two countries in the field of civil aviation and striving to achieve further progress in this field. Hence, the aviation sector plays a vital role in strengthening bilateral relations and promoting economic development for both countries.
