Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto recently announced that Qatar has pledged to invest $2 billion in Indonesia’s development and strategic projects through the sovereign wealth fund Danantara Indonesia.
Chief Investment Officer of the sovereign wealth fund, Pandu Sjahrir, highlighted that the joint investment commitment of $4 billion between Indonesia and Qatar will focus on priority sectors. Indonesia and Qatar will each contribute $2 billion.
“The investments align with Indonesia’s priorities. If we look at the themes, we see food security, energy security, downstream, digital infrastructure, healthcare, and the promising hospitality sector,” Sjahrir stated.
Fund to focus on projects in key sectors
The fund will focus on projects in food security, energy security, downstream processing, digital infrastructure, healthcare and tourism, Danantara said in a statement on Tuesday.
Sjahrir stated that President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to Qatar resulted in a joint commitment between the two countries. “Mr. Prabowo spoke with Qatar about investment to establish a joint investment fund worth $4 billion, which comprises $2 billion from them and $2 billion from us. The projects will be developed in Indonesia,” he elaborated.
For his part, President Prabowo emphasized that this investment commitment reflects the success of his government’s economic diplomacy and signals Qatar’s willingness to elevate its partnership with Indonesia. “I think this commitment marks notable progress,” he added.
Housing and Settlement Areas Minister Maruarar Sirait, who accompanied the president to the forum, confirmed the value of the expected investment. Also in attendance were Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Investment Minister and Danantara CEO Rosan Roeslani, Culture Minister Fadli Zon, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya and Indonesian Ambassador to Qatar Ridwan Hassan.
Qatar, Indonesia partner to launch Strategic Dialogue
President Prabowo also held a meeting with the Emir of Qatar His Highness Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. At the Amiri Diwan Palace, the two leaders highlighted their countries’ bilateral ties.
During the visit, HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani and HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Sugiono signed an agreement to launch a Strategic Dialogue between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Indonesia, marking a milestone in the deepening bilateral relationship between the two countries.
The Strategic Dialogue underscores the strength of the bilateral relationship and highlights mutually beneficial opportunities to deepen cooperation in areas of shared interest, marking a new chapter in the partnership between the two countries.
This includes deepening collaboration in a range of key sectors, including political cooperation on international and regional issues of mutual interest, advancing security, defense, and counter-terrorism efforts and enhancing economic cooperation, particularly in trade and investment, alongside fostering greater cultural exchange, building cultural bridges and strengthening people-to-people connections.
Qatar and Indonesia believe their strong and historic mutual partnership will benefit the interests of both countries, elevating their bilateral relationship to a higher level of cooperation.
