Qatar’s air cargo sector saw a 10.1 percent increase in June, recording a total of 214,823 tons compared to 195,029 tonnes in the same month last year. In a recent post on social media platform X, the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) revealed the preliminary air transport statistics for June 2024, noting significant growth across all sectors of the country’s aviation landscape.

In addition to the growth in Qatar’s air cargo sector, the data also revealed an 11.3 percent increase in aircraft movements with 23,257 flight movements in June compared to 20,891 aircraft activities in the same month last year.

Additionally, the number of passengers on flights saw a remarkable 16.4 percent annual increase in June with over 4.34 million passengers flying through Hamad International Airport compared to 3.73 million in June 2023.

According to the latest May 2024 data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the global air cargo markets reported a strong annual growth in demand.

Overall demand rose by 14.7 percent annually in May, marking the sixth consecutive month of double-digit year-on-year growth. In addition, global airline cargo capacity rose by 6.7 percent compared to May 2023.

In the Middle East, carriers saw a 15.3 percent annual growth in demand for air cargo in May. Meanwhile, their capacity increased by 2.7 percent year-on-year.
