The industrial production index in Qatar increased by 7.3% year on year in August 2022, according to the Planning and Statistics Authority.
The general index of industrial production recorded in August was 104.4 points, compared to 97.3 points in the same month of 2021.
The indicator reflects growth details across various industrial economic sectors, including the mining sector (82.46 percent), the manufacturing sector (15.85 percent), the electricity sector (1.16 percent), and the water sector (0.53 percent).
The index’s annual performance was driven by a 7.3 percent increase in mining and quarrying activity in addition to a 7.1 percent surge in manufacturing activity. Also, the growth was supported by a 5 percent hike in electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supplies and a 27.5 percent rise in water supplies.
The industrial production index is a short-term quantitative indicator that measures changes in the volume of production in a selected basket of industrial products over a specific time period, referred to as the base period.
Moreover, the industrial production in Qatar increased month on month by 1.2 percent in August; mining and quarrying production grew by 0.6 percent, and manufacturing activity hiked by 4.4 percent, with electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supplies surging by 2.8 percent and water supplies decreasing by 1.2 percent.
