Qatar’s consumer price index (CPI) reached 107.12 points in April 2024, marking a 0.42 percent increase from March and a 0.71 percent increase from April 2023. The latest CPI data from the National Statistics Center at Qatar’s General Secretariat of the National Planning Council reveals that out of the 12 main groups of consumer goods, five recorded price increases, six saw decreases, and one remained unchanged in April 2024 compared to the previous month.
Monthly variations
Qatar’s CPI data reveals that the five groups that witnessed a monthly increase in April include recreation and culture with a 2.75 percent rise. Prices of clothing and footwear also saw a 2.06 percent rise while miscellaneous goods and services rose 1.8 percent. In addition, the prices of furniture and household equipment recorded a 0.58 percent increase while food and beverages rose 0.32 percent.
The CPI data also reveals a decline in Qatar’s restaurant and hotel prices of 1.47 percent in addition to a 1.15 percent decline in communication. Housing, water, electricity, other fuel and transport prices saw a 0.17 percent decline while education prices declined 0.06 percent. The only group that saw no change was tobacco.

Annual changes in prices
Comparing April 2024 with April 2023, Qatar’s CPI showed a 0.71 percent increase due to significant price hikes in five groups.
Notable annual increases:
- Recreation and culture increased by 10.03 percent
- Education increased by 3.42 percent
- Food and beverage prices rose by 3.20 percent
- Miscellaneous goods and services rose by 2.32 percent
- Transport prices increased by 1.21 percent
Meanwhile, the CPI data revealed an annual decline in seven groups including communication prices, which fell 11.82 percent. Housing, water, electricity other fuel prices declined 2.95 percent while health fell 1.77 percent. Furniture and household equipment prices saw a 1.54 percent decline while restaurant and hotel prices declined 1.34 percent. Finally, clothing and footwear prices saw a 0.55 percent decrease. The only group that saw no annual change was tobacco.
