Saad bin Sherida Al-Kaabi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs, declared that the second phase of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed) had saved more than 4 billion Qatari riyals ($1.1 billion) by the end of the previous year 2021.
Qatar aims through its program for rationalization and energy efficiency to accelerate its efforts towards addressing climate change, achieving carbon neutrality, and cutting emissions in the energy sector.
During Tarsheed‘s tenth anniversary celebration, Al-Kaabi was quoted by Qatar News Agency as saying that the program had saved 14,000 gigawatt-hours of electricity, over 100 million cubic meters of water, and roughly 138 billion cubic feet of gas. It has also succeeded in reducing about 8.5 billion kilograms of carbon dioxide.
He emphasized that the third phase of the Energy Conservation and Efficiency Program’s work, which runs from April 2022 to March 2030, aims to improve these outcomes by implementing goals and focusing on issues that impact the fundamental nature of work in electricity and water sectors.
“An example is the electric vehicle strategy, which calls for the construction of 1,000 electric charging stations by 2025, increased energy efficiency, and the pursuit of measures aimed at promoting sustainability, addressing climate change, and lowering emissions,” he added.
