A strategic cross-destination tourism partnership has been signed between Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) and Oman Tourism Development Company (OMRAN Group).

The Memorandum of Understanding seeks to drive tourism growth in Ras Al Khaimah and Musandam in Oman, through joint promotion and marketing initiatives. The landmark agreement was signed in London at the World Travel Market.

Significantly, the partnership ushers a new era of joint tourism initiatives that foster better cross-destination tourism efforts that will benefit both the UAE and Oman.

Promoting cross-destination tourism

Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, and Musandam, Oman boast a 90-minute drive separating them. They share natural wonders like the majestic Hajar mountains, which are an intrinsic part of their geographical makeup. Their intertwined cultural heritage and historical connections further enrich and strengthen this unique collaboration.

Thus, the agreement serves as a formal platform for cooperation in the pursuit of their common goals. Both organizations will join forces to create opportunities for travelers to visit both destinations in a single trip. The collaboration is not limited to marketing but extends to making transportation more accessible between Musandam and Ras Al Khaimah. Moreover, it will develop favorable visa arrangements and initiate tourism packages, adventure offerings, and partnership opportunities.

“We look forward to working together with OMRAN on cross-destination promotions which will not only showcase each of our destinations’ distinct tourism offerings but also raise awareness among international visitors about the wide range of tourism attractions in the Middle East” stated Raki Phillips, CEO of RAKTDA.

Adventure tourism market

The partnership will also focus on positioning Ras Al Khaimah and Musandam as leaders in the global adventure tourism market. Destinations like Jebel Jais and Musandam’s record-breaking overwater zipline will captivate adventure seekers from around the world.

Both Ras Al Khaimah and Musandam are famous for their stunning natural assets. These include the Hajar Mountains and the renowned fjords of Musandam. Their locations along the Arabian Gulf and Sea of Oman make them sought-after tourist destinations. Travelers can indulge in an extensive range of water activities, including diving, Dhow cruises, dolphin watching, and kayaking.

Furthermore, history enthusiasts can explore the rich heritage and cultural history of both destinations. Ras Al Khaimah boasts four archaeological sites on the UNESCO tentative list and Suwaidi Pearls, the country’s only pearl farm. Meanwhile, in Musandam, visitors can delve into historical sites such as the Khasab Castle and Telegraph Island. This enriches their experience with the deep-rooted traditions of the region.

“This MoU underscores the pivotal role tourism authorities play in championing natural assets and cultural heritage. Through our joint efforts, we aim to craft distinctive and innovative experiences for global travelers, further enhancing the allure of our region,” stated Dr. Hashil Obaid Al Mahrouqi, OMRAN Group’s CEO.
