The maintenance efforts, organized by road classifications, encompassed highways, freeways, arterial routes, and internal roads across six residential areas and one commercial zone.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed preventive maintenance on 14 significant roads and 9 essential intersections throughout various regions of Dubai in the third quarter of 2024. This initiative, Dubai Media Office reported, is part of RTA’s broader strategy to improve the operational efficiency, sustainability, and structural stability of the road network, thereby facilitating smooth traffic flow and enhancing safety for all road users. The endeavor is aligned with RTA’s vision to establish itself as a global leader in seamless and sustainable mobility while adhering to the highest international standards.

Focus areas of maintenance work

The preventive maintenance activities conducted in Q3 2024 targeted several major thoroughfares in Dubai, including Dubai-Al Ain Road, Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road, Ras Al Khor Road, Al Rebat Street, Khalifa Bin Zayed Street, Al Ittihad Street, Abu Bakr Al Siddiq Street, Omar Bin Al Khattab Street, Al Musalla Street, Al Satwa Street, Khalid Bin Al Waleed Street, Al Marabea’ Street, and Zabeel 1 Street. The maintenance efforts, organized by road classifications, encompassed highways, freeways, arterial routes, and internal roads across six residential areas and one commercial zone.

Commitment to infrastructure and safety

Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency at RTA, emphasized the authority’s dedication to the sustainability of Dubai’s infrastructure and the safety of every road user, which he described as the organization’s foremost priority. He noted that in Q3 2024, preventive maintenance was carried out on critical streets throughout the emirate. This included renewing pavement layers according to road conditions, addressing damage from natural elements, and repaving sections of asphalt and tiles that were compromised.

Supporting urban growth and quality of life

Al Banna also highlighted RTA’s commitment to thorough maintenance efforts that cover all major roads and their associated facilities. He remarked that these actions support Dubai’s urban growth and development, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for both residents and visitors.

Leveraging technology for maintenance

Furthermore, Al Banna mentioned that RTA employs the latest smart technologies in its maintenance operations to uphold the highest quality and safety standards. This approach allows for accurate monitoring of the operational status of road facilities. It also enables the prediction of the lifespan of roads. Additionally, it helps identify necessary measures to maintain operational efficiency and structural integrity throughout their service life. He added that during maintenance activities, RTA prioritizes the safety of road users and the smooth flow of traffic, with the aim of reducing congestion and vehicle density during this period.
