Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced a range of initiatives aimed at enhancing the performance of taxi services throughout the emirate, prioritizing passenger experience, comfort, and safety.

These initiatives reflect RTA’s dedication to delivering high-quality transportation services and its continuous effort to raise standards within the taxi industry. They also reinforce RTA’s commitment to fostering a clean and sustainable transport environment. This improves the experience for all taxi users, including residents, tourists, and visitors from around the globe.

Adel Shakri, director of Planning and Business Development at the Public Transport Agency of RTA, explained that the initiatives encompass heightened awareness and training programs for drivers and instructors at taxi companies and driving schools. He noted that drivers are being encouraged to keep their vehicles clean, and the provision of uniforms is being increased. Additionally, he mentioned that RTA has initiated a pilot program to introduce high-quality air fresheners in over 500 airport taxis and is implementing AI-based monitoring to detect smoking through in-car cameras. He also highlighted that inspection campaigns across taxis in the emirate are being intensified to further promote cleanliness.

Impact measurement

Shakri further indicated that the Public Transport Agency has established a framework to measure the effectiveness of new initiatives focused on improving taxi cleanliness standards. This framework includes a monthly operational index that evaluates both vehicle and driver cleanliness, as well as tracking cleanliness-related observations for every 100,000 Hala Taxi trips. He added that starting in 2025, semi-annual customer satisfaction surveys and mystery shopper assessments will be conducted to specifically evaluate vehicle and driver cleanliness.

He concluded by stating that these initiatives are integral to RTA’s relentless pursuit of enhancing the quality of transportation services in Dubai, ensuring that all passengers enjoy a safer and more comfortable journey. They align with Dubai’s ambitious vision of creating a clean and sustainable environment, underscoring RTA’s commitment to innovation and excellence in delivering services that meet the expectations of both residents and visitors.
