Qatar has been ranked the safest country in the world since 2019, marking the fifth year in a row that the country has held the top spot. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) follows Qatar as the safest country, with a crime index of 15.1 and a safety index of 84.9. According to Numbeo’s list, the top ten safest countries in the world in 2023 are as follows:

  1. Qatar
  2. UAE
  3. Taiwan (China)
  4. Isle Of Man
  5. Oman
  6. Hong Kong (China)
  7. Armenia
  8. Japan
  9. Switzerland
  10. Bahrain

Crime Index, according to Numbeo, estimates the overall crime level in a given city or country. A country with low crime rates will have a low crime index, indicating safety. The safety index, on the other hand, is diametrically opposed to the crime index. A city is considered very safe if it has a high safety index.

Additionally, Oman ranked fifth on the list, while Saudi Arabia took the twelfth position.

In 2021, Oman was named among the top five safest countries in the world for expatriates, according to a global report that ranks countries on the basis of how easy they are for foreign nationals to live in.

Oman is ranked fifth among 59 of the countries polled, with only the UAE (ranked third) finishing above it among the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, according to the Expat Insider report by Inter Nations.
