In a collaborative effort with the Dubai Media Council, the UAE unveiled a comprehensive generative AI guide consisting of 100 applications and implementations of AI in the media industry. This happened at the 21st edition of Arab Media Forum (AMF) kicked off in Dubai on Tuesday, September 26, at the Madinat Jumeirah, under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Omar Sultan Al Olama, the minister of state for AI, Digital Economy, and Telecommuting Applications, emphasized, “AI will not replace journalists in the near future. While AI can be trained initially, its sustainability may be limited. Human involvement will be necessary to ensure content accuracy and creation.”

The applications leverage AI platforms such as Humanta, Chatbase, Promptpal, and Listen Monster, among others. Humanta excels in data analysis, specifically in research and document analysis. Chatbase serves as an AI Chatbot builder, while Listen Monster offers a free speech-to-text transcription service.

Organised by the Dubai Press Club, this two-day event is set to draw more than 3,000 distinguished attendees, including influential media figures, ministers, heads of prominent local, Arab, and international media entities, as well as esteemed thought leaders, intellectuals, and writers.

This year’s AMF carries the theme ‘The Future of Arab Media,’ with a specific focus on the multifaceted forces shaping the future of media within the region.

Significant transformation

Al Olama highlighted that the upcoming phase will witness a significant transformation. Experts predict that AI-generated content will constitute approximately 95 percent of global internet content by 2025. Al Olama noted that the media sector has a history of effectively adapting to changes by leveraging technologies to distribute content and create specialized tools for the preservation and widespread dissemination of this information.

Remarkable potential

Moreover, Al Olama explored during AMF 2023 several innovative endeavors that leverage artificial intelligence to create diverse tools. One notable example involved a team of young individuals developing an AI system capable of generating and distributing over 471 billion pieces of music on the internet while acquiring intellectual property rights. This process, which would take approximately 1 billion years using traditional methods, showcases the remarkable potential of AI in revolutionizing creative industries.

DEWA and DMI

During AMF 2023, an agreement was signed between Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI) to foster a strong partnership and collaboration.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of DEWA, emphasized the pivotal role of media in showcasing DEWA’s contributions towards strengthening the UAE’s global leadership in climate action and expediting the shift towards sustainable and renewable energy. This aligns with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aim to achieve 100 percent energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050. Noteworthy that DEWA participated in AMF as the Sustainability Partner of the event.
