Sharjah Airport reports 8.3 million passengers in H1 2024, achieving 12.4 percent growth

In the first half of 2024, Sharjah Airport experienced a 12.4 percent increase in total passenger numbers compared to the same period the previous year. Over 8.3 million passengers traveled through the airport during this six-month period. Moreover, the airport saw a 12.2 percent growth in aviation movements, totaling 52,702 flight operations.

Cargo operations surge

Sharjah Airport also achieved significant growth in cargo handling operations, which rose by 40.7 percent to reach 97.2 thousand tons. Additionally, sea-air cargo operations increased by 17.5 percent, amounting to 7.4 thousand tons.

Ali Salim Al Midfa, chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA), attributed this progressive performance to the airport’s strategic efforts to solidify its leading regional position. This includes providing a safe and seamless travel experience, adopting innovative technologies, adhering to environmental sustainability standards, and offering high-quality integrated services that align with passengers’ needs and aspirations.

Supporting economic growth

Sharjah Airport serves as a dynamic gateway supporting the emirate’s economic activity, tourism, and business sector. It attracts investments by expanding its connectivity networks and increasing global aviation movements. The number of international destinations served by the airport has risen to over 100, through 26 airlines, including air cargo flights. Recent additions include Greece and Poland via Air Arabia.

The Chairman commended the continuous dedication of the airport’s administrative and technical teams in providing the best services around the clock. This ongoing effort is vital in achieving the airport’s ambition to become one of the top 5 regional airports. To this end, the airport is executing a new expansion project aiming to increase its capacity to 25 million passengers annually by the end of 2027.
