Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, recently reviewed the cultural district project in the Azizi Venice community of Dubai South. Initiated by Azizi Developments, this initiative aims to enhance Dubai’s cultural and artistic landscape while promoting innovation within the creative sector.

Alignment with creative economy strategy

During the briefing, Mirwais Azizi, founder and chairman of Azizi Developments, outlined the project’s core elements, which are designed to bolster Dubai’s status as a global cultural hub and improve its standing in international competitiveness rankings. This distinctive project, Dubai Media Office reported, underscores Dubai’s dedication to fostering creative talent and solidifying its position as a premier destination for artists and creatives from around the world. 

In line with the Dubai Creative Economy Strategy, the cultural district project in Dubai South aligns with the leadership’s vision to establish Dubai as a capital of the global creative economy. Furthermore, by cultivating a supportive environment for artists, investors, and entrepreneurs, the project aims to enhance global leadership in culture and creativity. Central to this initiative are creative business incubators that leverage advanced technology to empower artists and boost the sector’s international competitiveness.

Facilities and amenities

The cultural district in Dubai South will boast a range of outstanding facilities, including an opera house, theater, exhibition spaces, and a performing arts academy. Designed to enrich Dubai’s dynamic and diverse cultural landscape, the project is set to attract artists and creatives from across the globe. By seamlessly integrating art and culture, this upcoming district promises to be a lively hub, enhancing the lives of Dubai South residents through a variety of activities and experiences.

Mirwais Azizi conveyed his pride in the launch of the ambitious project, noting its significance as a crucial platform for the creative industry. Impressive venues

Moreover, the cultural district in Dubai South features an impressive selection of venues aimed at enriching the emirate’s artistic scene. Central to this district is a striking 2,500-seat opera house, designed with a forward-thinking vision by Zaha Hadid Architects. This venue will further incorporate state-of-the-art acoustic and visual technologies to ensure an extraordinary artistic experience. Additionally, a more intimate 400-seat theatre offers a flexible space suitable for drama, comedy, art workshops, and smaller performances.

Future talent development

Enhancing the district’s appeal are spacious exhibition halls capable of hosting up to 2,000 guests. Additionally, these versatile spaces are designed to accommodate a wide array of local and international exhibitions, showcasing everything from paintings and sculptures to innovative digital art.
