His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced on Monday the launch of the Dubai National University with an initial investment of AED4.5 billion ($1.23 billion).
The launch seeks to raise Dubai’s position among the top 10 cities globally with the highest quality of education. Moreover, the Dubai National University seeks to become among the top three local universities with the largest number of research contributions in the next 10 years. The strategy also seeks to position the university among the top 50 young universities globally over the next decade and among the top 200 universities globally in the next 20 years.
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum was appointed as the university’s president while H.H. Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum will act as the Dubai National University’s vice president. In addition, H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum will be the university’s chairman of the Board of Trustees.
In a statement on social media platform X, Sheikh Mohammed said: “The university has an Emirati identity, its programs are international, and its outputs will serve our development path. The world is changing rapidly.. and the real challenge is to create generations capable of absorbing these changes and harnessing them to create a better future for us and our country.”
Meeting Dubai Social Agenda 33 targets
Sheikh Mohammed launched the Dubai National University under Dubai Social Agenda 33, which aims to support Emirati families by protecting, empowering, and enhancing various aspects of their lives.
It addresses areas such as housing, quality of life, identity and values, social cohesion, healthcare, and future skills for the new generation. Dubai’s social agenda also seeks to establish an education system that meets Dubai’s future aspirations, enhancing its human capital through high-quality, affordable education across diverse platforms.
