UAE airlines suspend flights to several Middle East destinations amid rising tensions

UAE airlines have suspended flights to key destinations across the Middle East on Friday amid rising geopolitical tensions. They have also announced flight cancellations to several other destinations after several countries closed their airspaces.

Dubai International Airport (DXB) said in a social media post that some flights at DXB and DWC – Al Maktoum International have been cancelled or delayed due to airspace closures over Iran, Iraq, Syria and Jordan.

“We’re working to manage the disruption and support affected guests. Please check with your airline for the latest updates and rebooking options before heading to the airport, and allow extra time to get here. Our teams are on hand to assist impacted guests. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we monitor the situation,” the statement added.

Emirates cancels flights to and from Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Iran

In a flight update, Emirates announced the cancellation of several flights to and from Middle East destinations including Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Iran from June 13-15. These include:

June 13

  • EK945/EK946 : Dubai – Basra ‑ Dubai
  • EK943/EK944: Dubai ‑ Baghdad – Dubai
  • EK979/EK978:  Dubai – Tehran – Dubai
  • EK980: Tehran ‑ Dubai
  • EK903/EK904: Dubai – Amman ‑ Dubai
  • EK905/EK906: Dubai – Amman – Dubai
  • EK957/EK958: Dubai – Beirut – Dubai
  • EK953/EK954: Dubai – Beirut – Dubai

June 14

  • EK977/EK978: Dubai – Tehran – Dubai
  • EK971/EK972: Dubai‑Tehran ‑Dubai
  • EK979/EK980: Dubai‑Tehran‑Dubai
  • EK943/EK944: Dubai – Baghdad – Dubai

June 15

  • EK977/EK978: Dubai – Tehran – Dubai
  • EK979/EK980: Dubai‑Tehran‑Dubai
  • EK945/EK946: Dubai – Basra – Dubai
  • EK941/EK942: Dubai – Baghdad ‑ Dubai

flydubai cancels flights to 5 locations

In addition, flydubai confirmed that due to the temporary closure of airspace over Iran and Israel in the early hours of June 13, some Middle East flights have been impacted.

The Dubai-based carrier said, “Flights to Amman, Beirut, Damascus, Iran and Israel have been suspended and a number of flights have been cancelled, rerouted or have returned to their destination of origin.”

“We are monitoring the situation in the region closely and adjusting our flight schedule accordingly. The safety of our passengers and crew remains our top priority. We are in direct contact with passengers whose travel plans have been affected,” the airline added.

Etihad Airways experiences flight disruptions

Etihad Airways also said in a statement that it is experiencing disruption to several flights across the Middle East region due to airspace closures and the ongoing regional situation. As a result, flights have been either cancelled or delayed, including:

June 13

  • EY595 / EY596, EY593 / EY594, and EY597 / EY598 between Abu Dhabi (AUH) and Tel Aviv (TLV) – Cancelled.
  • EY590 from Amman (AMM) to Abu Dhabi (AUH) – is experiencing an extended delay.

June 14

  • EY595 / EY596 between Abu Dhabi and Tel Aviv – currently scheduled to operate but may be subject to delay.
  • EY589 from Abu Dhabi to Amman – currently scheduled to operate but may be subject to delay.

In addition, Etihad said it is re-routing a number of flights in response to restricted airspace in parts of the Middle East.

“Guests transiting through Abu Dhabi to connect to cancelled flights will not be accepted for travel from their point of origin. This remains a developing situation and is likely to cause some disruption and delays over the coming days. Etihad is continuously monitoring airspace and security updates in close coordination with the relevant authorities,” the statement added.

Air Arabia cancels flights to 10 destinations

Due to the current situation and airspace closures, Air Arabia said it has temporarily canceled flights to and from Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Russia, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

“Some other flights may face delays or rerouting,” the statement added.

Qatar Airways has also temporarily cancelled flights to Iran and Iraq due to the current situation in the region.
