Dr. Nawal Al-Hosany, the UAE’s permanent representative to the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena), has received the Energy Institute’s President’s Award. This award recognizes her outstanding efforts in accelerating the energy transition and advocating for renewable energy. Her remarkable achievements mark a significant milestone as she became the first figure from the Middle East to receive this esteemed accolade.
Dr. Al-Hosany was honoured at the institute’s annual ceremony in London.
Championing the energy transition
Dr. Al-Hosany’s unwavering commitment to accelerating the adoption of renewable energy technologies has earned her international acclaim. Moreover, her advocacy for gender equality within the energy sector reflects her commitment to fostering collaboration and empowerment.
Presenting the award, Energy Institute President Juliet Davenport said: “Dr. Nawal has been at the forefront of transformative work in the field of energy, in her home nation and internationally.” He also highlighted her commitment to advocating for renewable energy and tackling the barriers to their deployment.
Breaking gender barriers
The award recognizes Dr. Nawal Al-Hosany’s efforts in breaking gender barriers in the energy sector. Dr. Al-Hosany has encouraged more women to enter the energy sector at the local, regional, and international levels. Notably, she was also presented with an Honorary Fellowship to the Energy Institute.
