There are strong chances that Puglia will host this significant investment, said Italy's Industry Minister Adolfo Urso

Abu Dhabi-based G42, through its subsidiary Core42, announced today a strategic partnership with Italy’s iGenius. The partnership aims to build the largest AI computing infrastructure in Europe and reflects the growing partnership between the two nations.

In a statement, Italy’s industry ministry revealed that G42 will participate as the lead funder of the initial phase of the project. The announcement came during the third edition of Investopia Europe.

“This agreement, which will lead to the creation of a supercomputer in our country, marks a decisive step in relations with the UAE, confirming and enhancing both Italy’s leading role in the development of AI globally and our contribution to European AI,” said Italy’s Industry Minister Adolfo Urso on Friday.

Puglia to host G42 and iGenius’s supercomputer

The partnership between G42 and iGenius aims to “build a high-performance GPU cluster, powered by thousands of NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs, a milestone in enabling dedicated sovereign AI infrastructure for the European market,” said the ministry.

The pan-European AI expansion will be led and operated by Core42, a G42 company specializing in sovereign cloud, AI infrastructure and digital services. The supercomputer is scheduled to go live in Italy this summer, added the ministry.

“There are strong chances that Puglia will host this significant investment, but the collaboration of all local institutions will be essential to guarantee the energy support necessary for its operation,” added Urso.

G42 and iGenius’s computing cluster will be a key element in accelerating the development, training and use of AI applications in key sectors of the European economy, including financial services, manufacturing and the public sector. It seeks to meet the growing European demand for secure, scalable and high-performance infrastructure, in line with the European objectives of digital sovereignty.
