The UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities in Mauritius have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the aim of strengthening cooperation in the fields of water, energy, and sanitation.
The virtual signing of the MoU took place with the participation of high-ranking officials from both sides.
Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, UAE minister of Energy and Infrastructure, represented the UAE.
Meanwhile, Georges Pierre Lesjongard, minister of Energy and Public Utilities of the Republic of Mauritius, represented Mauritius.

The areas of collaboration outlined in the MoU encompass various aspects. These include energy, renewable energy, hydrogen and its byproducts, energy efficiency, liquefied natural gas, water resources, and water efficiency.
In addition, the MoU covers desalination, the application of digital technology, wastewater management, and sanitation.
The agreement establishes a framework for the exchange of experiences and information between the two parties, particularly in relation to newly developed technologies, knowledge, and best practices.
It also seeks to facilitate joint research and development initiatives.
Moreover, the deal aims to promote project implementation through public-private partnerships (PPP) and independent power producer (IPP) models.
Additionally, the agreement seeks to facilitate mutual visits, meetings, and technical workshops, while also encouraging investment from both sides in relevant areas.
In December 2023, The UAE concluded talks with Mauritius on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
The agreement paved the way for increased trade, investment and private-sector cooperation.
