To refund their eDirham card balance, users must log in to the Ministry of Finance’s website using UAEPASS and submit a refund request with the supporting documents required. After processing the request, the balance in the eDirham card will be transferred to a new card issued by First Abu Dhabi Bank.

Additionally, customers who need additional support or have questions may contact the Ministry of Finance’s call center via the toll-free number 800 533336 or the First Abu Dhabi Bank customer service line at 600 52 5500.

In fact, The e-Dirham was one of the first cashless payment systems adopted by UAE government agencies. Issued first as a physical card with three different levels of benefits, then evolving into a mobile app, it enabled secure transactions for a multitude of government services.

Deactivation

In November 2022, the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) announced that it has completely deactivated the e-Dirham system to collect service fees and has replaced it with a direct payment system that relies on approved payment methods in the UAE, in line with the systems of the Ministry of Finance.

Furthermore, the Ministry’s announcement came after it succeeded in migrating gradually from the e-Dirham system to the direct payment system in September, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, and in line with a previous announcement by the Ministry of Finance that government entities will gradually stop using their previous payment systems.
