UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan recently participated in the UAE Government Annual Meetings in Abu Dhabi, which brought together over 500 leaders and officials from federal and local entities.

Sheikh Mohamed attended a session titled ‘Building Emirati Families’, where leaders and officials from the social, education, human development, and healthcare sectors discussed the importance of supporting and encouraging family growth in the UAE.

The session reviewed the key challenges and socioeconomic factors impacting families. Speakers highlighted significant initiatives launched by the state to support and encourage young people to embark on starting a family. They also underscored the importance of fostering societal awareness around the value of strong, cohesive Emirati families, as well as the inclusion of long-term solutions and policies on this matter within the national agenda.

Supporting family growth

In remarks during the session, Sheikh Mohamed said that building Emirati families and fostering conditions for their growth is a national responsibility that requires a holistic approach. This means that individuals, the community, and all institutions, with ample resources available to achieve this goal, share this responsibility.

At the UAE Government Annual Meetings, Sheikh Mohamed directed all entities and institutions to support this approach by implementing initiatives, programs and comprehensive policies that actively and positively contribute to family building and the empowerment of Emirati families. He also underscored the significance of family growth as a central element in building and empowering UAE society, enabling it to meet the demands of comprehensive national development, both now and in the future.

A number of ministers, senior officials, and experts in social and family affairs, education, healthcare, human development, economy, infrastructure and other fields also participated in the session.

Young Government Leaders Program 2024

In a bid to further foster community engagement in the country’s policies and vision, the UAE government announced the launch of the Young Government Leaders Program 2024 at its annual meetings. The program aims to highlight and amplify the role of young government leaders across the UAE.

With 45 young leaders from federal and local government entities joining its first edition, the Young Government Leaders Program 2024 offers a national platform to build capacities and develop responsible, proactive, strategic leaders ready to create a better future for the UAE.

UAE Government Annual Meetings

During the UAE Government Annual Meetings 2024, the government also discussed key advancements and challenges facing growth. The UAE Cabinet convened at the meetings to review and discuss the agendas of governmental federal-local integration and to set clear objectives and a national agenda for the upcoming year 2025.

The Cabinet reviewed the progress of federal housing plans, citing the progress the Sheikh Zayed Housing Program has made. During the UAE Government Annual Meetings, the Cabinet also approved the National Anti-Drugs Strategy (2024-2031), a comprehensive plan encompassing various programs and initiatives that aim for a drug-free UAE by 2031. The strategy also aims to reduce mortality rates resulting from drug use.

The Cabinet also ratified several agreements and memoranda with various countries, covering areas such as legal cooperation, economic and civil affairs, healthcare, and investment. Notable among these are comprehensive economic partnership agreements with Jordan and South Korea. It also ratified an agreement on cooperation in the field of nursing accreditation with the United States.
