UAE President meets with President Joseph Aoun, affirms support for Lebanon’s development

UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held talks today with His Excellency Joseph Aoun, President of the Republic of Lebanon, to discuss the close ties between the two countries and explore ways of enhancing cooperation for the benefit of their peoples. The meeting took place at Qasr Al Shati in Abu Dhabi during President Aoun’s official visit to the UAE.

Sheikh Mohamed welcomed the Lebanese President and expressed his best wishes for his success in leading Lebanon towards greater stability, development and prosperity, and in restoring its vital role within the Arab world and the broader international community.

Earlier today, President Aoun arrived in Abu Dhabi, marking the start of his official visit to the UAE, which came in response to an invitation from Sheikh Mohammed.

President Aoun was received by UAE Foreign Affairs Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of State Khalifa Shaheen, and Lebanon’s Ambassador to the UAE, Fouad Chehab Dandan, along with other figures.

The two leaders reviewed a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern and exchanged views on the latest developments. They underlined the importance of working together to promote peace and stability across the region for the benefit of all its peoples.

During the meeting, Sheikh Mohamed reaffirmed the longstanding ties between the UAE and Lebanon, underscoring the deep-rooted bonds of friendship, mutual respect and appreciation between their peoples. He noted that the reopening of the UAE Embassy in Beirut reflects the UAE’s commitment to supporting the stability and development of Lebanon and signals the beginning of a new phase of fruitful cooperation between the two countries.

His Highness also reiterated the UAE’s firm position in support of strengthening Lebanon’s state institutions and their role in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty, security and stability, as well as the UAE’s support for Lebanon’s unity and territorial integrity.

President Joseph Aoun thanked Sheikh Mohamed for the warm welcome and hospitality, and conveyed his appreciation for the UAE’s supportive stance towards Lebanon. He affirmed Lebanon’s keenness to strengthen its relations with the UAE across all fields in a manner that serves the interests of both nations and their peoples.

UAE, Lebanon seek stronger cooperation across various fields

President Aoun’s visit to the UAE comes following Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council’s (FNC) visit to Beirut last week. During his visit, Ghobash met with Dr. Nawaf Salam, Lebanon’s Prime Minister.

The two sides reviewed the strong fraternal relations between the UAE and Lebanon and discussed ways to strengthen and expand cooperation across various fields. They also exchanged views on several regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Ghobash also met with President Aoun last week, where they affirmed the deep-rooted and fraternal relations between the UAE and Lebanon, highlighting the extensive cultural, economic and social ties binding the two nations. They also emphasised the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation to serve the mutual interests of both peoples and reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to supporting Lebanon’s security, stability and prosperity.

Greater cooperation in cultural sector

Ahead of President Aoun’s arrival to the UAE, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, received Dr. Ghassan Salamé, Minister of Culture of Lebanon. During the meeting, they reviewed cooperation relations between the two countries and ways to enhance them to serve their mutual interests.

The meeting also touched upon prospects for cooperation between the two countries in the cultural sector and creative industries. The two sides further addressed a number of issues of common interest, in addition to the latest developments on the Lebanese scene.
