The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar announced the restoration of diplomatic ties and the resumption of embassy operations between the two countries, effective immediately.
In a statement, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that “in accordance with the Al-Ula agreement and the two countries’ desire to strengthen bilateral relations, Qatar and the UAE announce the restoration of diplomatic representation between them, with the resumption of the Qatari embassy in Abu Dhabi and its consulate in Dubai, and the UAE embassy in Doha resuming its activities.”

Similarly, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that “both sides confirmed that this step embodies the will of the two countries’ leadership and enhances the joint Arab work, to achieve the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples.”
Saudi Arabia welcomed the resumption of diplomatic ties between Qatar and the UAE, stating that it was in accordance with the Al-Ula agreement. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised the “positive step,” highlighting that it confirms the strength of the relations between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and contributes to enhancing Gulf joint work, in a way that meets the aspirations of the peoples of the region, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
On April 19, Qatar’s International Media Office said in a statement: “Work is underway between the Qatari and Emirati teams to reopen the respective embassies as soon as possible, exact date to be announced upon the finalization of the process.”
According to Reuters news agency’s report the same month, an official from the UAE stated that they are currently in the process of activating diplomatic relations, which includes the reopening of embassies.
