UAE’s Sharjah Airport welcomes over 4.2 million passengers, registers 26,473 flight movements in Q1 2024
March emerged as the most active month in terms of flight activity, with a total of 9,127 flights.

Over 4.2 million passengers arrived at the Sharjah Airport in the first quarter (Q1) of 2024, accompanied by 26,473 flight movements. 

According to Ali Salim Al Midfa, chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA), more than 42,000 tons of cargo were transported, strengthening the airport’s role in boosting tourism, the economy, and commercial growth in the Emirate of Sharjah.

Al Midfa affirmed the positive trajectory by highlighting a 10 percent increase in passenger numbers compared to the same period last year. This growth reflects the efforts of SAA and its partners to position Sharjah Airport among the top 5 airports in the region, delivering exceptional travel experiences and leading services.

Ongoing expansion operations, passenger surge

Al Midfa expressed confidence in the continued surge in passenger movement and air travel, particularly with ongoing expansion operations. These expansions are anticipated to boost the airport’s capacity to accommodate 25 million passengers annually by 2027.

He also emphasized that Sharjah Airport’s remarkable progress across various fronts is the result of a comprehensive long-term plan executed in collaboration with strategic partners from the public and private sectors. This collaboration has enhanced the airport’s competitiveness and leadership, elevating operational performance and delivering services at global standards. Furthermore, the airport has continually developed its infrastructure, facilities, technical systems, and implemented smart solutions to streamline travel procedures, optimize efficiency, and expand connectivity with tourist destinations worldwide.

According to the statistics, March emerged as the most active month in terms of flight activity, with a total of 9,127 flights. It also recorded the highest volume of transported cargo, amounting to 17.7 thousand tons. In contrast, January witnessed the highest number of passengers, with a total of 1,444,525 individuals passing through the airport.
