Ibrahim Al-Zu’bi, group chief sustainability & ESG officer at the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) Group, stated that the company has been an early adopter of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to drive sustainability. Last year, ADNOC implemented over 30 AI tools to improve the efficiency of its projects, leading to savings of up to $500 million and a reduction of more than one million tons of carbon emissions.

Launch of digital platform for AI-driven sustainability

During the Global Sustainability Forum in Abu Dhabi, Al-Zu’bi announced the launch of a digital platform for startups working in the field of AI and sustainability systems. This platform, developed in partnership with the CEO Sustainability Network and IBM, aims to accelerate the application of AI technologies at government and private levels to achieve sustainable development goals.

The platform will receive ideas from companies and individuals that can be applied in the UAE and the region. It will work with partners to pilot the offered AI solutions and learn from these experiences. The focus is on building young Emirati and Arab talent, further solidifying the UAE’s position as a global leader in the application of AI for sustainable development.

Growth of the Global Sustainability Forum

The second edition of the Global Sustainability Forum saw the participation of over 460 attendees and 85 companies from the UAE and around the world, compared to 85 participants and 23 companies in the previous edition. According to Al-Zu’bi, the forum has achieved four times its targeted goals in just one year.

Driving sustainability efforts

The Forum serves as an open platform to build upon the momentum and achievements of the first Global Sustainability Forum, which was held on the sidelines of COP28 and hosted by the UAE. It is also an opportunity to support the realization of the global climate change goals set out in the UAE Consensus and pave the way for more fruitful outcomes ahead of the upcoming COP29 climate change conference.
