The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Parkin, the provider of paid public parking facilities in Dubai. The agreement aims to expand the network of DEWA’s “EV Green Charger” stations across several prime locations managed by Parkin.

Enhancing sustainability and customer experience

This move is part of DEWA’s ongoing commitment to enhance sustainability, encourage the use of environmentally friendly electric vehicles (EVs), and improve the customer experience by facilitating convenient vehicle charging.

The MoU was signed by Waleed bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, and Mohamed Abdulla Al Ali, CEO of Parkin. The signing took place in the presence of Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, and Ahmed Bahrozyan, Chairman of Parkin.

Growth in electric vehicles in Dubai

Al Tayer emphasized the UAE’s dedication to sustainability and green mobility, highlighting the nation’s pioneering initiatives in fostering a sustainable economy. He underscored DEWA’s EV Green Charger program, which aligns with national policies and strategies to promote electric vehicles and reduce carbon emissions.

Additionally, Al Tayer noted that by April 2024, there will be over 30,000 electric vehicles in Dubai, and the number of participants in the EV Green Charger program is expected to surpass 15,000 by March 2024. This, he said, underscores Dubai’s success in promoting sustainable transportation and points to further growth in this area.

Focus on developing world-class EV charging infrastructure

Moreover, Bahrozyan highlighted the pivotal collaboration between DEWA and Parkin, marking a crucial step in Dubai’s EV journey. He further stressed their commitment to supporting Dubai’s Green Mobility Strategy 2030 and Dubai Economic Agenda D33, with a focus on developing world-class EV charging infrastructure and exceptional customer service.

Bahrozyan added that with Parkin operating over 197,000 parking spaces in Dubai, the company’s market-leading position, operational excellence, and innovative technology will enable it to drive the growth of EV infrastructure while also offering environmental and decarbonization benefits.

Since 2015 until the end of March 2024, DEWA’s EV Green Charger initiative has provided approximately 26,000 MWh of electricity for charging EVs in Dubai, powering a cumulative electric vehicle distance of approximately 130 million kilometers.
