Etihad Cargo, the cargo and logistics division of Etihad Airways, is expanding its freighter network with a new route to Madrid, Spain.
Effective July 15, 2024, Etihad Cargo will operate two weekly Boeing 777 freighter flights between Abu Dhabi and Madrid. This new service will add over 200 tons of cargo capacity for Europe. Additionally, with the launch of these twice-weekly freighter flights, the total number of flights Etihad Cargo operates to Spain will increase to 25 per week.
This new Madrid route further complements Etihad Cargo’s existing European freighter network, which includes six weekly flights to Amsterdam and three weekly flights to Frankfurt. The addition of Madrid brings the total number of Etihad Cargo’s weekly freighter flights to Europe to 11.
Stanislas Brun, vice president of Cargo at Etihad Cargo, stated: “Launching Madrid as Etihad Cargo’s latest European freighter destination supports the growing demand for e-commerce flows between Asia and Europe. Madrid’s role as a key fashion hub makes it an essential destination for the carrier’s freighter network.”
Increased belly-hold cargo capacity across network
In June 2024, Etihad Cargo also announced plans to provide greater belly-hold cargo capacity for its customers and partners across its global network. The airline’s summer schedule introduces 23 new passenger flights to various destinations and 77 additional passenger flights per week on existing routes, totaling 100 new weekly passenger flights.
In addition, this expansion will offer Etihad Cargo customers increased belly-hold cargo capacity to popular seasonal destinations in Europe, including Spain, Greece, France, and a new route to Türkiye.
Starting July 2, customers can book cargo capacity on three weekly passenger flights to Malaga, Spain, and two flights per week to Nice, France.
New routes and increased frequencies
Moreover, the airline has also launched a new route to Antalya, Türkiye with three weekly flights, and increased the number of weekly flights to Istanbul from 10 to 14, starting July 22nd.
Additionally, Etihad Cargo’s customers will benefit from greater cargo capacity to Dublin, Ireland, with three more flights per week starting July 23rd, bringing the total number of weekly flights to Ireland’s capital to ten.
