Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE) has officially launched four new facilities, furthering its strategic objectives to enhance electricity and water infrastructure while advocating for sustainable water management throughout the Northern Emirates.
These new facilities, with a total investment of AED422 million ($114.9 million) aim to meet the increasing utility demands stemming from population growth and ongoing regional development. Upgrading outdated infrastructure with state-of-the-art equipment ensures the reliability and expansion of utility services.
Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, CEO of EtihadWE, remarked that the inauguration of the new facilities represents a significant milestone in the company’s strategic journey. He noted that by enhancing their infrastructure, they are supporting the growth and needs of businesses and residents in the Northern Emirates, while also contributing to the UAE’s sustainability goals and its vision for economic diversification.
Key infrastructure developments
In Ajman, the Al Hamidiya station has been replaced by the Al Hamidiya Main Substation 132/11, completed at a total cost of AED137 million. Additionally, the newly built Mohamed Bin Zayed Substation 33/11, situated in the government-sponsored Local Community Residential Area of Mohamed Bin Zayed, was developed at a cost of AED61 million. In Fujairah, the Al-Nujaymat Main Station has been modernized with advanced technology and equipment for AED122 million.
Advanced operational features
These substations operate without onsite personnel and are monitored remotely, utilizing robust, low-maintenance technology that enhances operational flexibility. Moreover, the systems designed to maintain the condition of power transformers have been upgraded with improved heating and monitoring features, providing a more reliable and contemporary solution compared to previous methods.
Impact on local communities
Each of the Al Hamidiya and Al-Nujaymat substations now supports approximately 15,000 residential and commercial connections, which include villas, apartments, community centers, and shopping malls. Additionally, the Mohamed Bin Zayed Substation supplies power to 2,500 units across the residential and commercial sectors.

Enhancing water distribution
In Ras Al Khaimah, the newly inaugurated Al Ghail Pumping Station, part of the Al Ghail Distribution Center, represents an investment of around AED122 million. This facility is crucial for enhancing water distribution efficiency to the Central Region of Idhn, Al Ghail, Shoukah, Kadra, Masfout, and Muzairaa, as well as parts of Sharjah, including Dhaid, Malihah, Al Madam, and Hamda.
Aligned with the UAE’s National Water Strategy 2036, EtihadWE further continues to make significant progress toward ensuring water security and advancing sustainability in the region.
