Dubai-based carrier flydubai announced it touched down in Basel, marking the start of its four-times-weekly direct flights from Dubai to EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg (BSL). This service is the airline’s latest expansion in Europe, growing its network to 29 destinations that also include Budapest, Catania, Krakow, Milan-Bergamo, Prague, Salzburg, and Zagreb.

Expansion plans, fleet upgrades

Earlier in July 2024, flydubai announced plans to receive seven new aircraft before the end of the year and hire over 130 additional pilots. The new aircraft will support the airline’s network expansion, enabling it to add destinations like Basel, Riga, Tallinn, and Vilnius. In a significant milestone, flydubai placed its first-ever wide-body order for 30 Boeing 787-9s at the Dubai Airshow in 2023.

New routes and summer destinations

Alongside the Basel launch, flydubai has recently introduced flights to two new destinations in Iran and two in Pakistan, as well as 10 summer destinations including Batumi, Corfu, Dubrovnik, Mykonos, Santorini, Olbia, and Sochi.

Flights to Iran

Moreover, the airline’s expansion to Iran includes a four-times weekly service to Kish Island starting September 7 and a twice-weekly service to Kerman from September 9. Both routes will operate from Terminal 2 at Dubai International (DXB), with Emirates offering codeshare options for connecting passengers through Dubai’s global aviation hub.
