The UAE-based tech group G42 plans to partner with Vietnamese companies to develop a $2 billion hyperscale data center in Vietnam’s business hub Ho Chi Minh City. The local partners include FPT Corp, VinaCapital and Viet Thai Group, the official Vietnam News Agency reported on Thursday.

Authorities in the city are seeking opinions from the Prime Minister on the project, the report said, without giving a timeframe for the development of the center.

G42’s data center project in Vietnam aims to provide comprehensive AI solutions and advanced infrastructure for cloud service customers in Asia and around the world. According to the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, this is a strategic project with profound impacts on the socio-economic development of the city.

It will contribute significantly to the growth of the economy, increase foreign investments and create thousands of high-quality jobs, contributing to the development of information technology human resources in the city.

Since its establishment in 2018, G42 has established global operations in AI solutions and models, infrastructure and AI cloud computing. G42 currently has 24 operating centers with a capacity of 204 MW and aims to expand to 500 MW of data center capacity in 6 countries by 2029.

In a bid to achieve these goals, the company has recently launched G42 Europe & U.K., a subsidiary based in London. This entity aims to provide tailored AI solutions to the private sector in Europe and the U.K., while partnering with governments and industries to enhance critical AI infrastructure across the U.K. and continental Europe.

G42 has also partnered with OpenAI, Oracle, NVIDIA, SoftBank Group and Cisco to build Stargate UAE, a next-generation AI infrastructure cluster that will run in the newly established 5-gigawatt UAE–U.S. AI Campus in Abu Dhabi.
