M42, a worldwide healthcare network empowered by technology, has introduced a significant breakthrough in healthcare technology through the introduction of Med42. Med42 is a new open-access Clinical Large Language Model (LLM) that possesses 70 billion parameters and is driven by generative artificial intelligence (AI). This transformative AI model is set to revolutionize the healthcare sector and directly influence the outcomes of patient care.
Med42 offers high-quality responses to both concise and comprehensive medical inquiries. Its development aims to exponentially improve clinical decision-making and expand the availability of synthesized medical knowledge for healthcare professionals, patients, medical researchers, and even regulators.

Superior performance
Med42 underwent training using M42’s superior curated dataset of medical knowledge. In rigorous testing against various healthcare-related datasets, the model showcased superior performance compared to larger closed models such as ChatGPT 3.5. Notably, Med42 achieved an impressive score of 72 percent in a zero-shot evaluation of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Sample Exam questions. These results demonstrate Med42’s exceptional capabilities and its potential to elevate medical knowledge and decision-making.
Collaborative development
Med42 was created by the Abu Dhabi-based team of M42, in collaboration with Cerebras and Core42. Core42, a G42 company dedicated to enabling national-scale AI and Enterprise AI programs, worked closely with M42 to train and fine-tune the model. Additionally, a team from the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) conducted a thorough evaluation of the model’s accuracy. This collaborative effort ensures that Med42 is a robust and reliable tool in the field of healthcare technology.
