The UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) and Siemens Energy have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote the future of sustainable and renewable energy in the UAE.
This partnership will focus on addressing upcoming challenges related to grid infrastructure, promoting sustainable development and climate initiatives, and exploring technological opportunities for a resilient energy transition and dependable grid operations.
The MoU was formalized by Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at MoEI, and Khalid bin Hadi, Managing Director of Siemens Energy in the UAE, during the World Utilities Congress hosted by TAQA.

Collaborative efforts and knowledge sharing
Areas of collaboration outlined in the MoU include sharing knowledge through technical workshops and brainstorming sessions, developing innovative solutions for issues concerning grid expansion and reliability, fostering industrial growth, and exploring partnerships with local universities and research institutions on energy transition. Additionally, the agreement emphasizes nurturing youth skills and expertise in the clean energy sector.
Furthermore, the MoU, WAM reported, aims to assess the existing grid infrastructure to facilitate the integration of renewable energy, implement sustainable energy transition strategies, and analyze the hydrogen value chain, including large-scale hydrogen production and storage, as well as its implications for the UAE’s energy landscape and industrial economy.
Commitment to sustainable development
Al Olama expressed his pleasure in partnering with Siemens Energy to advance a more sustainable energy sector. He noted that such collaborations are crucial for supporting the UAE’s energy objectives and sustainable development. The MoU further aligns with their commitment to transitioning to a sustainable economy driven by clean and renewable energy, and he emphasized that their joint efforts would contribute to positioning the UAE as a center for sustainable, eco-friendly energy solutions.
He also mentioned the ministry’s ongoing dedication to forming strategic partnerships with leading companies like Siemens Energy to adopt innovative sustainability technologies and solutions that provide both economic and environmental advantages.
Moreover, Bin Hadi stated that, in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and in support of the UAE’s ambitious vision, they would work towards their shared goal of developing sustainable technology solutions to facilitate energy transition and address climate change.
