Qatar has achieved a major breakthrough in the development of its GigaNet 5G network as it concluded the country’s first successful trial on the millimetre wave (mmWave) spectrum, Vodafone Qatar said on Friday.
The new technology helps both consumers and businesses by boosting network capacity and speeds. It further allows users to enjoy faster upload and download speeds, with higher-quality video and multimedia content delivered faster.
The mmWave technology paves the way for the future of 5G and connectivity, and facilitates 360 degree streaming of 8K videos around major sporting or entertainment events via increased capacity and bandwidth, according to officials from the Doha-based telecoms giant.
“We’re always working to make our GigaNet network bigger, faster and stronger than ever before for the benefit of our customers, and mmWave is an important part of this evolution,” said Sheikh Hamad Bin Abdulla Al-Thani, Vodafone Qatar’s CEO.
