WAM said that the council unanimously elected UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, according to Article 51 of the constitution, after it held a meeting today at Al Mushrif Palace in Abu Dhabi headed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The Federal Supreme Council is the supreme authority in the state, and it consists of the rulers of all the constituent emirates of the federation. Each emirate has one vote in the council’s deliberations. One of its most important roles is to formulate the general policy of the Union, achieve its objectives and the common interests of the member emirates, and ratify the various federal laws before their issuance.

The sheikhs and members of the Federal Supreme Council affirmed their keenness to fulfill the original values ​​and principles established by the founder, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, which established the position of the UAE at the regional and global levels and enhanced its various national achievements.

The Council expressed its full confidence that the people of the UAE will stay, as desired by Zayed and the founders, always faithful guardians of the Union and its successes at all levels, praying to God Almighty to grant Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan success and direct his steps in the service of his country and the honorable people of the UAE.

For his part, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan expressed his appreciation for the precious trust placed in him by the sheikhs, members of the Supreme Council of the Union, and rulers of the UAE, praying to the Almighty to guide him and help him to bear the responsibility of this great trust and to fulfill its right to serve his country and the loyal people of the UAE.
