WGS 2025: UAE President and Dubai Ruler meet Pakistani PM, reaffirm bilateral historical ties

UAE and Pakistan discussed ways to enhance cooperation, particularly in economics, development, and other mutually beneficial sectors.

UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan welcomed His Excellency Pakistani PM Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, who is on a working visit to the UAE to participate in the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2025  The summit, taking place in Dubai, is being held under the theme ‘Shaping Future Governments.’

During their meeting at Qasr Al Shati in Abu Dhabi, His Highness and the Pakistani Prime Minister discussed ways to deepen cooperation between the UAE and Pakistan and explored opportunities to enhance ties in ways that serve mutual interests. The talks focused on the economic, trade, and development fields, alongside other areas that align with both nations’ visions for sustainable economic growth and prosperity.

The meeting also addressed the significance of the World Governments Summit in identifying global trends in governance and presenting actionable strategies to promote government preparedness in navigating global transformations. The discussions underscored the importance of leveraging these shifts to accelerate development and build a better future for all.

Exchanging views on regional and international issues

Additionally, the two sides exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest, with a focus on developments in the Middle East. They emphasised the need for intensified international efforts to open new horizons for a comprehensive and lasting peace based on the two-state solution to maintain regional security, stability, and peace.

For his part, the Pakistani PM reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding ties with the UAE and expanding cooperation, particularly in economic, trade, and investment areas, in line with the development priorities of both nations.

The meeting was attended by H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi; H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region; H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior; Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence; Ali bin Hammad Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for National Security; and Dr. Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President, along with a number of Sheikhs, ministers and senior officials.

Reaffirming historical ties between UAE and Pakistan

In parallel, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence and His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, met with Pakistan’s PM Sharif, at WGS 2025.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid welcomed Sharif and his delegation, reaffirming the historical ties between the UAE and Pakistan and their mutual commitment to advancing bilateral relations across various sectors.

During the meeting, both officials discussed ways to boost cooperation, particularly in economics, development, and other mutually beneficial sectors.

Strengthening global cooperation

The meeting, which was attended by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council; His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, chairman of Dubai Airports and chairman and chief executive of Emirates Airline and Group; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, His Excellency Mohammad Al Gergawi, UAE minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the World Governments Summit; Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE minister of State for International Cooperation and His Excellency Talal Belhoul Al Falasi, president of Dubai’s State Security Department, highlighted the importance of strengthening global cooperation and coordination to develop unified approaches for tackling challenges and anticipating future opportunities—key themes at the heart of the WGS agenda.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum expressed his appreciation for the Prime Minister’s participation at WGS, which serves as a vital global platform for shaping the future of governance and formulating policies that align with the aspirations of people worldwide.

Sharif, in turn, expressed his gratitude for the UAE’s steadfast support to Pakistan, particularly in the development sector.

He lauded the UAE’s success in government policy development, describing it as a model for both the region and the world. He emphasised his commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across various fields to promote mutual development and prosperity.

Sharif also praised WGS for its role in bringing together global leaders and decision-makers to share insights and expertise that can drive government performance and boost solid international partnerships, ultimately working towards a better future for all.
