Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, as well as Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, witnessed a recorded speech by the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which he delivered during a main session at the World Government Summit (WGS).

Erdogan extended thanks to the UAE for its assistance to Turkey in the aftermath of the recent earthquake, saying, “We have received support and messages of sympathy from more than 100 countries… especially the UAE.”

  • I hope that WGS will be beneficial to us, our region, and humanity as a whole.
  • We place a high value on the land transport infrastructure and railway network that will connect the Gulf region with Europe and Asia via Turkish territory.
  • The world is currently confronted with a number of challenges, including natural disasters, climate change, displacement, and war.
  • Supply chain disruptions, natural disasters caused by climate change, the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the food and energy crisis, and high global inflation all pose challenges to the global economy and development process.
  • The future of our world will be determined by global governance and close international cooperation.
  • We believe that a more just world is possible.
  • The earthquake struck a 500-kilometer radius in ten provinces, affecting 13.5 million people.
  • Scientists estimate that the energy released by the earthquake is equivalent to 500 atomic bombs.
  • We are witnessing one of the most massive natural disasters in human history.

Meetings on the sidelines

 

On the sidelines of the WGS 2023, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum received Edi Rama, Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania,  in the presence of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the UAE and Albania in various fields during the next stage of the summit, as well as ways to raise the level of partnership between the two sides, particularly in the field of knowledge exchange and successful government expertise.

As part of the government knowledge exchange program partnerships, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Rama witnessed the signing of a bilateral cooperation agreement in government modernization between the governments of the two countries.

The partnership aims to exchange knowledge, expertise, and best practices in the development of government administration, as well as to share successful experiences in the areas of excellence, innovation, government performance, government accelerators, service development, and empowering people with the skills needed to face future challenges.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also met with Tunisian Prime Minister Naglaa Boudin Ramadan on the sidelines of the summit, in the presence of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The two sides discussed overall bilateral relations and ways to improve and upgrade them in various fields and vital sectors related to both sides’ goals of sustainable development, in a way that supports and serves the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples for the future. These sectors included energy, technology, as well as economic, trade, and investment cooperation, which necessitates a higher level of coordination in order to discover more opportunities for cooperation relations to progress along their various tracks.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum received Jassim Mohamed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, in the presence of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid greeted Al-Budaiwi and congratulated him on his appointment as Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council at the beginning of February.

During the meeting, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum expressed the UAE’s desire to strengthen the process of joint Gulf action in a way that supports the future of GCC countries and ensures more reasons for progress and prosperity for its people, as well as supports its ambitious development plans and aspirations.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also met with Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the League of Arab States, as part of his meetings.

The two sides discussed the overall current situation in the Arab and international arenas, as well as the Arab League’s efforts to promote joint Arab action. Sheikh Mohammed expressed gratitude for the League’s efforts to strengthen the foundations of Arab cohesion and activate the channels of cooperation among member states at all levels, in a way that serves the common interests of the region’s peoples and supports their orientations toward a promising future in which they overcome the challenges confronting the nation and help it achieve an advanced position in international affairs.

As part of the World Government Summit 2023, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum honored Lindsey Poulter, who specializes in data design and presentation, in the presence of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and alongside him Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.

The international award winner presented an innovative interactive dashboard that allows users to study data in various fields by selecting a specific search mechanism, such as income level, region, or country, and comparing it to its counterparts across a variety of developmental measures.

The Crown Prince of Dubai emphasized that the great global developments in data, as well as the opportunities and challenges that come with them, necessitate stimulating innovators, creators, and governments to develop tools and means, as well as innovative solutions, to ensure the presentation of this data in an innovative way that facilitates understanding, benefit from, and employment in the service, prosperity, and development of societies.
