Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat), the prominent satellite solutions provider in the UAE, and e& UAE have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The deal establishes e& UAE as the first telecom operator to partner with Yahsat under its Direct-to-Device (D2D) strategy.

Under this collaboration, the two companies will explore various initiatives and projects related to Yahsat’s planned D2D ecosystem. The goal is to enable voice, texting, and data satellite connectivity for standard smartphones. Through this partnership, e& UAE and Yahsat will work together on innovative projects aimed at revolutionizing satellite connectivity.

Seamless communication, global accessibility

The partnership will focus on Yahsat’s planned Low Earth Orbit (LEO) D2D system, which is designed to offer seamless connectivity, including voice, texting, and data, for standard smartphones. This technology will provide unprecedented levels of connectivity and accessibility for users across the globe.

This collaboration represents the latest milestone in the implementation of Yahsat’s D2D strategy, which aims to empower standard smartphones and Internet of Things (IoT) devices with advanced satellite capabilities. The strategy envisions an ecosystem of services and applications that can be accessed anywhere in the world, bridging the gap between satellite and terrestrial connectivity.

Collaborative vision

Ali Al Hashemi, Group CEO of Yahsat, expressed delight in announcing the MoU with e& UAE, a leading global telecom operator. This partnership represents the first of many agreements Yahsat hopes to establish with key industry players as part of its D2D strategy. The companies are discussing several areas of collaboration, including the development of the ecosystem under the recently launched D2D strategy, known as Project SKY, Al Hashemi added.

For his part, Masood M. Sharif Mahmood, CEO of e& UAE, stated that this partnership with Yahsat ushers in a new era of global connectivity. e& UAE is proud to be the first operator to join Yahsat’s D2D vision and leverage its networks to provide seamless connectivity to people worldwide. Moreover, Mahmood noted that this collaboration is a significant step towards bridging the digital divide and realizing the shared vision of a connected future.
