The Sustainable City – Yas Island, a collaborative project between Aldar Properties and SEE Holding, has been awarded the “Estidama 5 Pearl” classification, the highest rating under Abu Dhabi’s Pearl Villa Rating System (PVRS). This recognition is a testament to the partners’ dedication to sustainable development, encompassing social, environmental, and economic considerations.

Sustainable design features, innovations

The Estidama 5 Pearl rating signifies excellence in sustainable design. The community further features advanced energy-efficient building techniques, comprehensive water conservation measures, the integration of green spaces and pedestrian-friendly pathways, the use of eco-friendly materials, and a strong focus on enhancing environmental quality and community wellbeing.

Empowering residents through sustainability

Residents of The Sustainable City – Yas Island will benefit from the extensive sustainability features, including solar energy powering their homes, enabling them to save up to 50 percent on their energy bills. In addition, the community is designed to promote energy and water efficiency, with a central green spine running through the length of the development and biodomes to encourage community farming. Furthermore, a network of communal battery-charged buggies and bicycles will encourage walkability and accessibility for all.

Ongoing development and integration with Yas Island ecosystem

Construction of the project is currently underway, with the first handovers expected by the end of 2025. This development further marks the third The Sustainable City project in the UAE, seamlessly integrated into the wider Yas Island ecosystem, providing residents with proximity to natural spaces, leading educational institutions, and premier shopping, leisure, and entertainment destinations.

Commitment to net-zero future

Additionally, Faisal Falaknaz, Aldar’s group chief financial and sustainability officer, stated that the development aligns with Aldar’s 2050 Net Zero target and sets a framework for the future of sustainable cities, meeting the growing demand and expectation from customers for environmentally friendly and socially conscious living destinations.

Moreover, Marwa Nahlawi, general manager of Diamond Developers, the master planning and designing company under SEE Holding, highlighted that the project aims to establish a new standard for sustainable urban development by creating a live-work-thrive community that reduces emissions and enhances the quality of life, in line with SEE Holding’s mission to pioneer a net-zero emissions future.
