The unified number, also referred to as the UID number or the UDB number, is a unique number assigned to every individual holding a UAE visa.

Who can get a UID number?

All individuals holding UAE visas get a UID number, irrespective of the nature of the visa. This means, whether you are a UAE resident, a tourist or an employee, you will have a UID.

Does this number change?

This number usually does not change. Once linked to an individual, the number remains permanent even if the person’s visa status changes. For example, a tourist coming to the UAE for the first time will get a UID number. Now let’s say this person comes to the UAE again two years later on a different visa. While other details on the visa might change, the UID number will remain the same.

Who issues the number?

The UID number is issued by the country’s visa-issuing authorities – ICA and GDRFA.

What is the purpose of a UID number?

The number helps the UAE government maintain a person’s identification records. Once issued, this number can be accessed by all authorized UAE government entities, such as the police, immigration, visa issuing authorities, the central bank, etc. The UID-holder’s visa status, medical records, biometrics and all other vital details are all linked together.

How do you find the UID number?

The number is written clearly on all visas, whether tourist or residence. In case the number is not written on a residence visa, it can be found online in a few simple steps.

You can go to this form on the GDRFA website and fill in the required details such as passport number, nationality, date of birth and gender. Once you click ‘submit’, the website will display your number.

You can also call up the GDRFA or ICA helpline numbers.

Is it the same as the Emirates ID number?

No, these numbers are not the same. A UID number is issued to first-time tourists as well, whereas an Emirates ID is only issued to a resident or to a citizen.
