The Emirates Astronomical Society has pinpointed 16 major lunar events that will illuminate the skies over Earth in the coming year, 2025.

Among these remarkable phenomena are the conjunctions of the Moon with Venus and Saturn after sunset on January 3rd, followed by the Moon’s occultation of Saturn after sunset on January 4.

Furthermore, the full moon will obscure Mars after sunset on both January 13 and 1.

Ibrahim Al Jarwan, chairman of the Board for the Emirates Astronomical Society and a member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, informed the Emirates News Agency (WAM) that on February 1st, the Moon will make a close approach to Venus after sunset.

On March 2, a conjunction involving the crescent moon and Venus will take place after sunset. The Earth will witness a total lunar eclipse, commonly known as a “blood moon,” on the nights of March 13 and 14, followed by a partial solar eclipse on March 29.

Al Jarwan elaborated that on June 22, a conjunction will occur between the crescent moon, Venus, and the Pleiades star cluster just before sunrise. On July 22, another conjunction will happen between the crescent moon, Venus, and Jupiter, also just before sunrise. The crescent moon will approach Venus, Jupiter, and Mercury before sunrise on August 19 and 20. Additionally, a second total lunar eclipse will take place on September 7, followed by another partial solar eclipse on September 21st.

He emphasized that on October 6, the Harvest Moon—the full moon occurring closest to the autumnal equinox—will be visible after sunset. On November 5, observers will witness the closest supermoon since 2019, also after sunset. The series of celestial events will culminate on December 4 with the appearance of the Cold Moon, the full moon nearest to the winter solstice, after sunset.
