Several Gulf cities have ranked among the safest in the world, according to a new update of a leading index on Tuesday. The ‘Crime Index by City 2024 Mid-Year’ by Numbeo ranks Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Doha, Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah and Oman among the safest cities globally.

In a list of 311 cities, Abu Dhabi has ranked highest on the safety index (88.2) and lowest on the crime index (11.8).

At the second spot is Ajman (84.2 on the safety index and 15.8 on the crime index).

Doha comes third (83.9 and 16.1), followed by Dubai in fifth place (83.7 and 16.3), Ras Al Khaimah in sixth (82.3 and 17.7), and Oman in the seventh spot (80.6 and 19.4).

Therefore, of the top 10 cities on the safety index, six cities are from the GCC region.

Riyadh (74.5 and 25.5) and Jeddah (73.7 and 26.3) are two Saudi Arabian cities on the list, ranking 35th and 43rd respectively.

Kuwait City has ranked 65th with a safety index score of 70.2 and a crime index reading of 29.8.

Other cities in the top 10 include Taipei in the 4th spot with a safety index score of 83.7 and a crime index score of 16.3. The Hague ranks 8th (79.8 and 20.2). Munich in Germany and Trondheim in Norway complete the top 10.

Quality of Life Index

GCC cities have also ranked high on the Numbeo ‘Quality of Life Index by City 2024 Mid-Year’.

Leading the GCC cities is Abu Dhabi with a Quality of Life index score of 192.4, ranking 17th on the list. Dubai, with a score of 174.1, ranks 49th, just below Doha, which has a score of 174.3, ranking 48th.

With a score of 185.4, Muscat ranks 30, while Kuwait City ranks 111 with a score of 136.2.

Riyadh and Jeddah rank 63 and 64, respectively, with scores of 167.3 and 165.9.

Leading the Quality of Life Index is The Hague with a score of 223.8, followed by Luxembourg, Eindhoven and Rotterdam in the Netherlands, and Zurich in Switzerland.
