The aviation sector contributes approximately $4.1 trillion to the global economy, providing significant benefits to individuals, families, and communities through job opportunities and economic development, according to Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy and Chairman of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
Al Marri emphasized the aviation sector’s vital importance in the global economy, stating that it accounts for 12 to 13 percent of GDP in various countries and supports millions of jobs around the world.
Boosting tourism through air travel
Speaking during the “ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium 2025” and the “Global Sustainable Aviation Marketplace” in Abu Dhabi, Al Marri highlighted aviation’s essential role in enhancing the tourism sector, noting that 58 percent of international tourists depend on air travel.
He further explained that the sector’s efficiency allows businesses to connect with global markets, helps tourists access destinations, and strengthens companies’ capabilities to reach clients and suppliers worldwide.
Bridging gaps and improving access
Al Marri pointed out that aviation serves to bridge the divide between remote and underserved areas and urban centers, enhancing access to crucial services like healthcare and education. It also plays a significant role in humanitarian initiatives, such as disaster response and medical evacuations, helping to overcome geographical challenges.
