Thousands of ChatGPT users are reporting disruptions to their service, according to outage tracking site Downdetector.com. The reason for the outage is currently unknown.

OpenAI is yet to acknowledge any outage but users from around the world have been reporting issues for the last two days with a large spike in reports around 11:30 GMT on Thursday.

In the U.K., over 5,600 reports had been made and in the United States, that number stood at over 4,300. Users are reporting a “Bad gateway” error message when trying to access the site and app. Reports on Downdetector.com also show that users were having issues with either upload speeds or accessing ChatGPT on Wednesday.

Other users recorded having similar issues but it was limited to a peak of only 296 reports in the U.S. on the outage tracking site at around 4 PM GMT.

Last month, ChatGPT stopped working for many users when the chatbot suddenly couldn’t respond to queries, with some users seeing an “internal server error” message. Microsoft reported a “power issue” at one of its data centers that started around the same time as the OpenAI problems and affected North America.

ChatGPT has gone down a few times in the past several months. Just days after OpenAI released Sora to ChatGPT subscribers earlier this month, the video generation tool and ChatGPT went down for hours. Meanwhile, a widespread outage affecting AI tools brought down ChatGPT in June.

The global outage comes only a day after the announcement of an ambitious $500 billion Stargate project, a joint venture by ChatGPT maker OpenAI, Oracle and SoftBank. OpenAI described Stargate as a game-changer for American AI leadership. “This infrastructure will secure American leadership in AI, create hundreds of thousands of jobs and generate massive economic benefit globally,” the company said in a statement.
