China Eastern Airlines has revealed the initiation of direct flights connecting Shanghai and Abu Dhabi, set to begin on April 28, 2025. This development signifies the first occasion a Chinese airline has established a direct route between these two prominent cities.
According to China Daily, the Shanghai-Abu Dhabi route will be collaboratively operated by China Eastern Airlines and Etihad Airways, headquartered in Abu Dhabi.
Flights are planned to operate every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Departures will take place from Shanghai Pudong International Airport, with return flights from Abu Dhabi scheduled on the same day (local time).
Abu Dhabi’s advantageous location, alongside its free trade zone policies and robust presence in the energy and financial sectors, supports Chinese enterprises in broadening their global reach.
The introduction of this new route is anticipated to boost trade, investment, and cultural exchanges between the UAE and China. It will also enhance connectivity between the Yangtze River Delta region and the Gulf region, promoting smoother business and tourism flows.
Moreover, this initiative is expected to stimulate tourism in both Shanghai and Abu Dhabi, thereby contributing to the growth of the hospitality and aviation industries.
