Passengers will no longer have to change trains at Jebel Ali metro station

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in collaboration with Keolis MHI, the operator of Dubai metro and tram, has announced an enhancement to the Dubai metro red line Y junction (meeting point of three routes). Commencing April 15, 2024, this strategic improvement eliminates the need for passengers to interchange at Jebel Ali metro station. This streamlines journeys and enhances operational efficiency.

Strategic Improvements

The creation of the Y junction in the Dubai Metro Red Line marks a significant milestone in RTA’s commitment to optimizing trip schedules and punctuality. Moreover, it elevates the overall journey experience for public transport users. This enhancement ensures seamless travel for passengers, with trains operating alternately. It also facilitates direct journeys from Centrepoint to UAE Exchange Station and Expo 2020 Station, and vice versa. Hence, it eliminates the inconvenience of switching trains at Jebel Ali.

Hassan Al Mutawa, director of rail operation at RTA, emphasized that these enhancements relied on comprehensive studies that reflect a consistent increase in the ridership of Dubai Metro’s Red Line. Al Mutawa highlighted the convenience this improvement brings to commuters. Hence, it eliminates the need for interchange at Jebel Ali metro station. It also provides direct journeys to popular destinations such as UAE Exchange and Gardens – EXPO 2020.

Enhanced information and assistance

To further enhance passenger convenience, Dubai Metro’s Red Line will display terminal station information on passenger digital information screens. Moreover, the station will make public announcements upon train arrival. Additionally, Dubai Metro will deploy extra staff to guide and educate passengers before and after the implementation for a few weeks, ensuring a smooth transition.

Al Mutawa outlined the multitude of benefits stemming from this initiative. This includes a decrease in station crowds and waiting times, better passenger journey experience, and significant energy savings. The timetable upgrade will result in fewer train kilometers, less power consumption during runs, and fewer trains to operate this schedule.
