Emirates strengthens connectivity, expands travel options through new MoUs with Vietnam Airlines and VietJet

Emirates has entered into two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Vietnam Airlines and VietJet, with the goal of enhancing connectivity and expanding travel options between Dubai and Vietnam’s key cities, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

The MoUs were formalized during the Vietnam – UAE Business Forum, which took place recently at the Hilton Dubai Palm Jumeirah. The signing ceremony was attended by Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ deputy president and chief commercial officer, along with various government officials, ministers, and business leaders from both nations. Orhan Abbas, Emirates’ senior vice president of Commercial Operations for the Far East, delivered a keynote address emphasizing the airline’s dedication to strengthening its presence in Vietnam—a market it has been serving since 2012. He underscored the airline’s role in supporting trade and tourism links between the UAE and Vietnam while providing customers with convenient travel choices.

Emirates’ commitment to Vietnam

Adnan Kazim remarked on the importance of collaborating with partners like Vietnam Airlines and VietJet, highlighting the opportunities for enhancing tourism and trade within the region. He expressed optimism about the potential for further collaboration and the growth of Emirates’ presence in Vietnam.

Emirates and Vietnam Airlines MoU

This MoU establishes a framework for expanding the existing collaboration between the two airlines. It includes improvements in connectivity on routes beyond the current interline agreement and the potential introduction of reciprocal loyalty benefits. The airlines will also engage in discussions regarding possible joint ventures in cargo and technical services to create seamless travel experiences for passengers.

Nguyen Chien Thang, Vietnam Airlines’ executive vice president, conveyed the significance of the MoU, emphasizing the potential to enhance the airline’s international presence and offer increased flexibility and convenience to passengers.

Emirates and VietJet MoU

The MoU between Emirates and VietJet focuses on exploring joint initiatives to promote visitor traffic between the UAE and Vietnam and to strengthen commercial collaboration between the two carriers. This agreement aims to enhance connectivity to popular destinations within VietJet’s domestic and regional network.

Dinh Viet Phuong, chief executive officer of VietJet, expressed excitement about the partnership with Emirates, noting its potential to provide cost-effective and seamless travel options for passengers while expanding VietJet’s global reach.

Growing appeal of Vietnam

With its rich cultural heritage, breathtaking landscapes, and rapidly evolving economy, Vietnam is increasingly appealing to travelers and businesses from around the globe. The establishment of stronger ties with local airlines reflects broader governmental efforts to enhance tourism and business relations between the two countries.

Economic partnership agreements

Additionally, the UAE and Vietnam have signed a comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA), which marks the first free-trade agreement Vietnam has established with a Middle Eastern country, aiming to boost trade and investment.

Emirates’ current operations

Emirates currently provides daily flights to both Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, using its Boeing 777 aircraft to ensure travelers enjoy smooth connections between Vietnam and sought-after destinations throughout Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas. Additionally, the airline plans to introduce a second daily flight to Ho Chi Minh City beginning on 15 January 2025, in response to the increasing demand for travel leading up to the Lunar New Year festival.
