UAE’s Etihad Airways is marking 20 years of service to India this month. The airline began its journey by launching flights to Mumbai, the commercial hub of India, on September 26, 2004, followed closely by New Delhi on December 1, 2004.

Over the years, Etihad has significantly broadened its network, and with the recent addition of flights to Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, and Jaipur earlier this year, the airline now serves 11 destinations in India, according to a statement.

Furthermore, Etihad has boosted seat capacity between Abu Dhabi and India this year by increasing flight frequencies to Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. The airline is now operating over 50 extra flights per week to India compared to last summer, offering more convenient departure times and greater flexibility for onward connections.

Celebrating the milestone, Antonoaldo Neves, chief executive officer of Etihad Airways, emphasized that India is a strategically important market for the airline. He expressed pride in reaching 20 years of service to the country, noting that when Etihad launched flights to Mumbai in 2004, it was the airline’s eighth global destination. Since then, Etihad has expanded to 80 destinations, with a vision to reach 125 by 2030.
